Taiko

The Watanabe family has been playing Taiko for nearly a century. Their consummate quality of sound can be traced back as far as 5 generations of Taiko players. Thus, the Watanabe's were able to pass down and perfect extremely rare pieces of this ancient art-form in a way that few are able to accomplish. Their music is performed using an array of drums made of oak wine barrels. To complement the thunderous sounds of the taiko drums, various flutes are utilized to create a beautiful harmony you will enjoy.

Watanabe Taiko Drummers have performed weekly at the Whalers Village over the past three years. During that time it has been my pleasure to see the joy and amazement that they have brought to our visiting guest as well as our residents. With their commitment to tradition and their devotion to perfection Watanabe Taiko has consistently created a unique and exciting environment that has entertained without compromise. I would like to thank Lin and her ohana for a great three years and for many more to come.
