Our rich
Taiko history began in the early 1900's when Tomijiro Watanabe played with
his local village group.
Soon after
his father introduced him to the art of Taiko, Tomio Watanabe followed in
his fathers footsteps. Grandpa played the Shime Taiko and Grandma Chiyo
Watanabe sang and danced.
Watanabe Taiko Drummers consists of Mr. Albert Watanabe (Flute/O-daiko), Ms. Lin Watanabe (O-daiko/Flute), Mr. Brian Kasahara (Shime taiko), Mr. Clyde Tasaka
(O-odaiko/Shakuhachi) and Mrs. Amy Watanabe (Manager). All of our players
possess over 20 years of experience each, and are very skilled in stick
twirling and impressive drum speed. We continue to carry our families
tradition by not only playing compositions dating back to Tomijiro's time,
but we pride ourselves in continuing to write new and ever evolving music to
reflect the current times.
